Ward acted as flag-bearer for Jersey during the opening ceremony

Flag bearer David Ward has won Jersey's first medal of the 2009 Island Games in Aland, the 58th medal for the shooter in his Games career.

The silver medal was won by Ward with team-mate Michael Quennault in the 50m free pistol event.

The pair were just one point ahead of bronze winners Aland, and 16 behind Gotland who took gold.

Ward has another chance of a medal later on Sunday, when he joins Derek Bernard in the 25m centre-fire.
