Andy Evans, one of Jersey's most experienced tennis players, is out of the first day's team event.

Evans pulled out of the first day of competition in the 2009 Island Games because of injury.

He told BBC Jersey: "Last week we had a practice match, I made a wrong movement and pulled my adductor muscles.

"I had a little bit of treatment here, it fells a little bit better today but I don't think good enough to even play a doubles at the moment."

He added: "I'm not the youngest anymore and it takes longer than it used to to get over injury."

Evans won a bronze medal two years ago in Rhodes, and still hopes to compete later in the week.

Jersey's men's tennis team are up against Menorca in the quarter-finals. The women play the Isle of Man.
