The Manx Youth Squad train at 7th Wave in Port Erin |
The Manx Youth Sailing Squad won the Team Champions Trophy at the RS Tera National Championship at Dabchicks sailing Club in Essex on Sunday. The squad contained six of the island's top sailors aged 14 and under, all of which were selected from trials. Coach Donald Edwards said: "They've done themselves and the island proud and we hope this will be the start of further success." Thirty-four boats from around the British Isles entered the Championship. The young sailors then contested six races over two days. Throughout the weekend the RS Tera GBR coaches assessed all the competitors in order to select the 2010 GBR RS Tera Squad. The coaches were impressed with the overall performance and high sailing standard of the Manx Youth Squad Members and have invited Izzy Sharpe 13, James Kelly 12 and Greg Kelly 11 to join the squad. All three will attend four training sessions in the UK during the winter and will hopefully progress to represent Great Britain at the RS Tera World Championships in the future.
Individual results, James Kelly - 7th Greg Kelly - 8th Izzy Sharpe - 12th Hannah Howitt - 16th Amie Shute - 19th Ffinlo Wright - 30th
