Goodison came third in the Laser Worlds in 2002 |
Olympic sailing champion Paul Goodison has won his first World Championship title after clinching gold at the Laser Worlds in Canada. Compatriot Nick Thompson made it a double celebration for Team GBR by winning bronze, his first ever senior World Championship medal. "It's fantastic and such a relief," said Goodison, who finished 6.5 points ahead of New Zealander Michael Bullot. "There was a bit of pressure to do the business," the 31-year-old added." Goodison, from Rotherham, is now unbeaten in international sailing since taking gold in Beijing a year ago. | 606: DEBATE |
He claimed the European title earlier this month and took gold at three events at the ISAF Sailing World Cup. Thompson finished a further four points adrift of Bullard in claiming third place.
