Goodison has won three consecutive World Cup events

Olympic Laser champion Paul Goodison secured a hat-trick of World Cup wins with victory in the penultimate leg of the series in Kiel, Germany.

Goodison, 31, from Rotherham, won his first five races in light winds then took the medal race, finishing ahead of New Zealand's Mike Bullot overall.

"To have won all three back to back is especially pleasing," he said.

However, team-mate Nick Thompson tops the standings going into the series finale, in Weymouth in September.

Goodison's gold was one of five medals claimed by the GB team in Kiel, with two of them coming in the 470 men's fleet.

Jonny McGovern and Christian Birrell took silver, while Paul Campbell-James and Mark Asquith took bronze to hold on to the lead in the overall World Cup standings for the 49er class.

Two-time Olympic gold medallist Iain Percy had a stand-in crew for the final medal race of the Star class - his first Star event back since the Beijing Games.

Andrew Simpson had to fly home to collect his MBE from HRH The Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace so coach Nick Harrison stepped in to help Percy take bronze.

"We were very rusty and it was a comedy of errors at times, but it was nice to come away with something at the end of it," said Percy.

"We're looking forward to coming back here for the Europeans in a week's time."
