Scott led home a British clean sweep in the Finn class |
British sailors enjoyed another day of success at the ISAF World Cup in Majorca, winning seven medals - including a clean sweep in the Finn. Giles Scott claimed his first major international regatta gold on Friday, ahead of Ed Wright and Andrew Mills. Nick Thompson earned a second straight World Cup series win in the Laser. John Pink and Rick Peacock came second in the 49er class with Dave Evans and Simon Hiscocks third and windsurfer Nick Dempsey was third in the RS:X. "It's probably one of my most memorable regattas because it's a decent international Finn event so it's good to know I'm moving in the right direction," said Scott. | 606: DEBATE |
"It was pretty nerve-racking." Elsewhere, Penny and Saskia Clark came fifth in the 470 women's class, ahead of Hannah Mills and Katrina Hughes (sixth) and Sophie Weguelin and Sophie Ainsworth (ninth). "It's been great to see the Finn lads, particularly Andrew Mills, stepping up this week, and also great for John Pink and Rick Peacock to get two second places at two consecutive World Cup events," said Royal Yachting Association Olympic manager Stephen Park. "It's also been a good start to Penny and Saskia's campaign in the 470, having only been sailing together for three weeks prior to this event. "There are some fleets where we still need to improve our consistency, but overall it's been really encouraging at this first major event of the new cycle."
