Rogers (right) won silver with Glanfield in Athens and Beijing |
Olympic silver medallist Nick Rogers and new partner Pom Green had a low-key start on their route to 2012 on day one of the World Cup event in Majorca. The duo, who confirmed this week they will race together towards the London Games, were in 28th place in the 470. A new crew of Penny and Saskia Clark topped the leaderboard in the women's 470 after their first two races. In total, 59 GB sailors compete across nine classes in the Princess Sofia Trophy, with medal races on Friday. Racing with Joe Glanfield at the last three Olympics over 11 years, Rogers won medals in Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008. But he said: "We now have different ambitions that we want to pursue and feel it is the right time to move on. "There are many highlights in the time we have sailed together, with the three Olympic Games standing out. "We remain very good friends and would very much like to get involved in other sailing projects together in the future." | 606: DEBATE |
Rogers and Green competed for the first time in the 470 class at the Palamos Christmas Race in December, where they finished fourth. Glanfield will spend the year coaching and will make a decision on his Olympic future towards the end of the year.
