Treble glory for British sailors

Sailing

British sailors picked up three gold medals at the Olympic Classes Regatta in Miami.

Nick Thompson (Laser), Ed Wright (Finn) and the Paralympic Sonar crew of John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Alex Wang-Hansen all won their classes.

British sailors also picked up podium spots in three further classes at the Grade 1 event, the second of seven stops in the new ISAF World Cup series.

The tour now makes its way to Majorca, for the Princess Sofia Trophy in April.

John Pink and Rick Peacock notched up a career-best finish, clinching a silver medal in the 49er skiff class, while Paul Campbell-James and Mark Asquith - winners at the first leg of the World Cup in Melbourne in December - came fourth.

Paralympic sailors Niki Birrell and Alex Rickham also claimed bronze for the GB team in the Skud-18 class.

The women's match-race team of Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Ally Martin missed out to world number four Lotte Meldgaard Pedersen in the semi-final, but clinched bronze over Genevieve Tulloch's team.
