Coventry Blaze have confirmed they have signed Great Britain defenceman David Phillips for next season.

Phillips will link up with his international coach Paul Thompson at the Skydome as he returns to the Elite League after a two-year absence.

The 23-year-old has been plying his trade on the other side of the Atlantic in both the American Hockey League and the ECHL.

Phillips has previously iced for Hull Stingrays and Belfast Giants.

Thompson is excited about his signing and is looking forward to pairing him with fellow GB defenceman Jonathan Weaver.

He said: "Dave is a great signing for Coventry Blaze. He has had a couple of years away in North America, where he has totally developed his game.

"I have enjoyed working with him at GB level and I had a big influence in him going over to North America in the first place.

"I think he sees his future overseas but he is young enough to go back over there.

"His partnership with Jonathan Weaver in the GB side brought the best out of both players and they compemented each other very well."
