Chelmsford Chieftains have added centre Kyle Jones to their roster. The Canadian, 26, played for British Columbia junior side Trail Smoke Eaters between 2002 and 2005. He is the Smoke Eaters' top scorer in an individual season, netting 54 times in the 2003-04 campaign and going on to play for the University of Alaska. "I'm here to put points on the board and mix it up a bit. I'm not a fighter, but I'll look after my team-mates," he told the Chelmsford website. "It's a great opportunity for me to play in the UK. My father's family are from over here, so it will be good to play here. "I've met a few of the boys already and they seem a great bunch and I can't wait to get on the ice and skate with them." | Giving ourselves another option is key to that and we'll see how things go with the three of them Chelmsford head coach Dean Birrell |
Jones becomes the Chieftains' third non-English Ice Hockey Association-trained signing after Slovakians Rudi Dzurko and Jerry Pavlus. Only two of the three can be in a match-day squad but head coach Dean Birrell insists there will be no departures. "I want to keep the players on their toes and help mix things up. I want players to be wanting to play and be keen to play," he said. "Giving ourselves another option is key to that and we'll see how things go with the three of them." Chelmsford face Streatham Redskins in a double header this weekend.
