Neilson ready for new Elite League season

Nottingham Panthers captain Danny Meyers says there is a buzz of excitement around the dressing room ahead of the new Elite League season.

Panthers get the 2010/11 campaign under way this weekend with back-to-back matches against Belfast Giants and reigning champions Coventry Blaze.

Meyers told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's the start we wanted and we get to prove ourselves against the top two teams.

"We wouldn't want it any other way. It is early days but we're very excited."

Panthers host Belfast at the National Ice Centre on Saturday (1900 BST) before travelling to Coventry on Sunday (1800 BST).

"Most people agree if you go by CVs Belfast probably have the most talented team," Meyers added.

"But it has been proven over the years, certainly in Nottingham, that the best players on one team don't always make the best team [on the ice].

"They will certainly have a successful year but we are hoping to have an even better one.

"As for Coventry, we don't like those guys, they don't like us and there's nothing like starting the season off with a great rivalry."
