Suderman was a seventh-round draft pick by Atlanta Thrashers in 2001 |
Hull Stingrays have signed Canadian defenceman Matt Suderman for the upcoming Elite league season which starts in the first week of September. The 27-year-old from Winkler, Manitoba has been brought in to add weight to the Stingrays' backline. "I felt last season we were a little too soft in defence but Matt's a big strong guy," Rays Coach Sylvain Cloutier told BBC Radio Humberside. "I know he's not going to be afraid to get involved if he needs too." Suderman, who played in France last season for Morzine-Avoriaz, spent two seasons in America's Canadian Hockey League with the Arizona Sundogs, posting over 300 minutes in 139 games. "I wanted to make some changes and I wanted to bring in some guys that want to compete," Cloutier added. "Matt's going to be logging a lot of minutes on the ice each game. He's a stay at home defenceman and after last season I felt that he's just the sort of guy this team needs."
