Newcastlen Vipers struck by Jerramie Domish departure

Newcastle Vipers' preparations for the 2010-11 Elite League season have been dealt a blow by the departure of defenceman Jerramie Domish.

Domish, 30, joined Vipers from Danish side Esbjerg EfB Ishockey in July 2009 but revealed a move from the North East was in the interest of both parties.

"The club and my agent have been totally honest with me," Domish said.

"Taking into account money on offer elsewhere and the team they're putting together, it was best I moved on."

Domish added: "I'd like to thank all the superb Vipers fans and the friends I have made, for their support during my six months here, however I am not ruling out a return to the club as I've already told them I'd like to return further down the line."

Domish's exit follows that of coach Rob Wilson and Slovenia forward Matic Kralj and the earlier departure of forward Matus Petricko.

For the existing crop of players and the Vipers owners, the summer will be a difficult one in terms of rebuilding the side for the forthcoming campaign.

With a confirmed move to Whitley Bay from their prior Newcastle Arena home reducing capacity, and a new chairman in the shape of former Durham Wasps player Paddy O'Connor, next season will be a changed one for the Vipers.

However Domish leaves with the club's blessing and general manager Jaimie Longmuir confirmed the club had been delighted with the American's efforts in Vipers colours.

"Jerramie came to us pretty much unknown last summer and many were questioning the signing, but we'd done our homework and we knew the player we were getting," Longmuir said.

"Jerramie has been a major positive for us during the 2009-10 season, he's been professional on and off the ice and led the team through some difficult times.

"We wish Jerramie all the best for the future with his new club."

Domish is yet to confirm the identity of the club he is joining.
