Coventry Blaze still top despite defeat by Cardiff

Ice hockey

Coventry Blaze remain five points clear at the top of the Elite League despite a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Cardiff Devils on Thursday.

Devils, who clocked up their fourth straight win, took a 2-0 lead after Matt Miller and Wes Jarvus found the net in the first period.

Blaze then levelled with strikes by Luke Fulghum and Brian Lee.

But the visitors took control in the third period with Mark Smith, Phil Hill and Jarvus all scoring.

The Blaze were hampered by poor discipline and collectively clocked up 139 minutes of penalties.

Brad Cruikshank and Derek Campbell have both been handed on-match bans and will be unavailable for Saturday's trip to Nottingham Panthers.

Blaze will also be without the injured pair of Adam Calder and Greg Chambers.
