Nottingham Panthers' latest signing Jay Henderson says he has joined the club to win trophies.

The 31-year-old, who played 33 games in the NHL, signed a deal on Tuesday.

Henderson told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I am really excited. I have been following you guys all year long and everything has been going really well.

"When you get the chance to go to a great organisation it's a great opportunity. I want to come here and win championships."

The Edmonton-born forward will be reunited again with Cameron Mann, a former team-mate in the Boston Bruins organisation in the late 90s.

The roster also included former Panthers defenceman Nick Boynton, who joined the club in the NHL lock-out season of 2004/05.

Henderson was a ninth-round draft pick by Boston in 1997 and went on to play 33 games in the world's top league.

He has extensive experience in Europe in Austria and three seasons in the highly-rated DEL, the top league in Germany.

"Speed is a huge asset of mine and also playing gritty and my shot. I like to do a bit of everything and like to hit and get under teams skins," he added.

"But the important thing is we keep putting wins together."

Panthers hope to be able to fly Henderson in for back-to-back matches against Sheffield (home) and Coventry (away).

If not, he will make his debut in next weekend's double-header in Belfast.
