Newcastle Vipers have signed Whitley Bay Warriors forward Nathan Salem for the 2009-10 Elite League season.

Salem made 23 appearances for the Warriors last season and coach Rob Wilson believes the 18-year-old can make the step up to top-level hockey.

"We are really excited to sign Nathan as we think he is an up-and-coming star," said Wilson.

"We felt it was important to make him a Viper now and work with him over the coming seasons."
