Strachan leaves the Stingrays after six years in charge |
Hull Stingrays have relieved coach Rick Strachan of his duties for financial reasons after the club finished second-from-bottom in the Elite League. They will now begin the search for a player-coach for next season. Rays owner Mike Pack told BBC Radio Humberside: "We are not immune from the financial situation and we need to re-structure and do things differently. "One of the ways we can save a little bit is to go for a player-coach in line with the other teams in the league." The Rays have been an Elite League side for three seasons and have failed to reach the play-offs each time. Former Great Britain coach Strachan leaves the club after coaching the side for six seasons in the English Premier League and latterly the top flight. Pack says the priority now is to start the search for a new head man to replace the Canadian 45-year-old. He added: "Clearly we've now got to go out and advertise the post and examine the resumes that come in. We've got to put a job description together and outline the role. "We run a pretty small team in Hull so what we'll be asking is a big job from the new guy."
