Steelers two wins from the title

Sheffield Steelers are just four points away from claiming the Elite League title after Sunday's 3-1 win at one of their main rivals Coventry Blaze.

Goals from Jeff Legue, Ashley Tait and Ryan Finnerty secured the victory.

"One of the best games this year," Finnerty told BBC Sheffield. "Every element you can ask for. Two good teams going at it and we came out on top."

Dave Matsos's side now require just two more wins, both on the road, from their remaining six games to take the title.

The Steelers go to Nottingham on Saturday (7 March, 1900 GMT), then Newcastle on Sunday lunchtime (8 March, 1200 GMT).

Sheffield opened the scoring after just four minutes on Sunday night through Ashley Tait before Jeff Legue made it 2-0 three minutes later.

Coventry pulled a goal back on eight minutes with a powerplay goal from Sylvain Deschatelets.

But Finnerty got the decisive third goal in the third period, scoring his 18th of the season to earn the Steelers their fifth win against the defending champions this year.
