Steelers extend lead to 11 points

Sheffield Steelers remain on course for the Elite League title after a 4-3 over time win against Belfast Giants.

Scott Basiuk scored the winning goal on Sunday to complete a four point weekend for the Steelers.

Steelers head coach Dave Matsos told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I thought the guys elevated their game and Scott ended up being the hero.

"We came out of this weekend with four points. It's not going to be easy from here on in."

Robert Dowd scored his 20th goal of the season on Sunday against the Giants. The English youngster equalised for the Steelers after Shields opened the scoring for Belfast.

The Giants regained the lead with a power play goal from Malcolm MacMillan but the Steelers Brad Cruickshank made it 2-2 shortly after.

The Steelers were in front for the first time after 41 minutes through Jeff League. But the Giants made it 3-3 with a power play goal from Evan Cheverie seven minutes later.

Steelers defenceman Basiuk scored the winner in the 62nd minute to give Dave Matsos side the extra point.

On Saturday, goaltender Jody Lehman registered his 8th shut out of the season as the Steelers beat the Bison 6-0 at Basingstoke.

Jeff Legue (2) , Ashley Tait , Ryan Finnerty (2) and Jonathan Phillips were the Steelers goalscorers.
