 Steve Thornton's side lost two away games at the weekend |
The Belfast Giants lost 4-3 after overtime away to Elite League leaders Sheffield Steelers on Sunday night. Colin Shields gave the Giants the lead in the first period but Robert Dowd replied in the second period before Malcolm MacMillan restored the lead. Brad Cruickshank levelled again and Jeff Legue edged the Steelers in front but a strike by Evan Cheverie ensured the match went into overtime. Scott Basiuk netted the vital winning goal for the Steelers. The result is a major setback to the Giants' slim title hopes, having also lost 2-0 to Cardiff Devils on Saturday night. Jay Latulippe and Tyson Tepiltsky scored the decisive goals in the second period of the match.
