Mark Kennedy helps goal-scorer Joe Ledley celebrate his fourth-minute strike
Cardiff climbed to fourth in the Championship with an emphatic win over Barnsley, who slipped to 20th.
Joe Ledley struck from close range after four minutes and Michael Chopra did likewise almost 40 minutes later only for Jon Macken to hit back.
Barnsley boss Simon Davey was sent to the stands at half-time and midfielder Andranik Teymourian was sent off in the 65th minute.
Peter Whittingham's superb goal after 88 minutes sealed the Bluebirds' win.
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones: "I thought the first half we played some super football and could have made life easier for ourselves.
"Second half, first 15 minutes we started sloppy and I think the first four or five passes we gave away, which gave them a little bit of momentum.
"Bad goal to give away - we tried to pinch it on the edge of the box and there was no need to do that, but I think we deserved the victory because of the chances we had and their keeper kept them in it for a long time."
Barnsley boss Simon Davey:
"It's frustrating because I thought that the referee wasn't up to standard.
"I can't say much but he told me I couldn't watch the match in the second half.
"When there is a hostile crowd some people can get overawed and influenced for decisions they have to make for the home fans."
