Op rules Brooker out for season

Doncaster Rovers striker Steve Brooker is to undergo ankle surgery and will miss the rest of the league campaign.

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's quite a routine operation, but it will rule him out for the rest of the season."

The luckless 28-year-old has struggled with an ankle injury since joining Rovers from Bristol City in January.

"Steve has got quite an unstable ankle," said O'Driscoll. "It seems to be the cause of all his problems."

Brooker originally moved to the Keepmoat on loan in November, scoring on his debut in a 1-1 draw just a day after signing.

But he then picked up a calf injury and has not played since.

O'Driscoll then signed Brooker for Rovers on a two-and-a-half-year deal at the end of January.

Newport-Pagnall-born Brooker, who started his career at Watford, and has also played for Port Vale and Cheltenham Town, was at Ashton Gate for five years.

He scored 39 goals in 100 appearances, but his stay there was interrupted by several injuries.
