Aldridge spoke passionately of "off-ice problems" following recent defeats |
Elite League basement side Basingstoke Bison have announced the resignation of player-coach Ryan Aldridge. Aldridge, 30, joined Basingstoke as head coach last season, having previously led Bracknell Bees to the Premier League and play-off titles. "This is a decision I have been considering for some time," he said. "It is a painful decision for me. "I am leaving because I am not able to do the job as I wish. We're stuck in a rut and something needed to change." Aldridge leaves a Bison team without a win in their opening 12 league outings. "My position as coach has more often than not resembled that of club captain, constantly having to deal with issues such as accommodation, transport, equipment and wages," he explained, having referred to "off-ice problems" following the Bison's 5-2 home defeat by Newcastle on Saturday. | I shall be working hard in my final two weeks to help the team as best I can | "The last 18 months have been a constant struggle. I had hoped after battling so hard to survive last season that this season would be different but this has not proved to be the case. "I am proud to have been associated with the Bison," his statement concluded. "I shall be working hard in my final two weeks to help the team as best I can to achieve the results they deserve."
