Shrewsbury have signed Iceland Under-21 midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, 19, from Reading on a month's loan.
With Sean Thornton back at Leyton Orient, Town boss Paul Simpson wanted cover for the injured Paul Murray.
Simpson said: "Sigurdsson's a quality player. He's one of the best to come out of the Reading academy. "He's a very bright prospect."
Meanwhile, Simpson has loaned defender James Meredith to Blue Square North neighbours Telford United for a month.
The youngster has played twice for the Royals in the Carling Cup this season.
