Coventry Blaze have completed the signing of young defenceman Ben O'Connor from Edinburgh Capitals.

The 19-year-old international, who is Coventry's first close season capture, has signed a two year contract keeping him at the Skydome until summer 2010.

Speaking about his transfer, O'Connor said: "Who wouldn't be delighted with a move like this?

"Every young player in the league wants an opportunity like this and I'm really excited about it."

O'Connor broke into the Great Britain senior team earlier this year when he earned his first two caps at the Mont Blanc challenge tournament.

Coventry and Team GB coach Paul Thompson said he viewed the signing with one eye on the future.

"I am delighted to have secured the services of one of the best young British talents in the league," Thompson said.

"I'm sure we can develop Ben's game so that he becomes a solid Elite League star for a long time to come."
