Coventry Blaze are champions again (Mark Tredgold) |
Coventry Blaze have retained their Elite League title thanks to Sunday's 4-2 home victory over Belfast Giants. Blaze had to work hard for their third success in four years and fell behind to an early strike by Scott Cameron.
Jonathan Weaver scored on the powerplay to level the game at the start of the second period before netting again.
Curtis Huppe quickly added a third but George Awada pulled one back only for Coventry's captain Sylvain Cloutier to restore the two-goal cushion.
Blaze could add the British Knockout Cup to their trophy haul when they face Basingstoke Bison in a two-legged final.
