Day two: York round-up
Irish challenger Azamour claimed victory in the Prince of Wales's Stakes, the feature race on day two of the Royal Ascot at York meeting.

Michael Kinane's mount justified favouritism to claim victory by a length and a half.

It was a second win of the day for Kinane after Peerless, at 14-1, won the Windsor Forest Stakes.

Kinane went on to complete a 195-1 treble when Beautyandthebeast won the final race, the Sandringham Handicap.

1730 Sandringham Stakes (One mile)
1. Beautyandthebeast (MJ Kinane) 9-2
2. Borthwick Girl (J Fortune) 25-1
3. Bon Nuit (S Drowne) 10-1
14 ran

Beautyandthebeast comes from last to first late on to snatch victory in the final race of the day.

It looked like Brian Meehan's Borthwick Girl was going to land the spoils entering the final stages but Beautyandthebeast, with Michael Kinane on board swooped late on the stand side.

It gave Kinane a treble for the day while Bon Nuit came through well for third.

1655 Queen Mary Stakes (Five furlongs)
1. Flashy Wings (TE Durcan) 4-1jf
2. Salut d'Amour (K Fallon) 4-1jf
3. Bow Bridge (Dale Gibson) 6-1
18 ran. Dist: 3, 1

Mick Channon's Flashy Wings put in an impressive display to win the Queen Mary Stakes.

The speedy filly, ridden by Ted Durcan, had been talked about a lot before the race and once she took over the lead within the final furlong she looked set for the win.

Kieren Fallon's Salut d'Amour, who initially refused to enter the starting stalls, ran on well for second, just ahead of the Mick Easterby-trained Bow Bridge.

1620 Royal Hunt Cup (One mile)
1. New Seeker (P Robinson) 11-1
2. Ballast (N Mackay) 11-2
3. Azarole (RL Moore) 12-1
4. Royal Prince (JP Murtagh) 8-1
22 ran. Dist: nk, 2

New Seeker took advantage of the low draw to put in a strong display of front running to win the Royal Hunt Cup.

Jockey Philip Robinson had to dig deep in the final two furlongs as Ballast and Nicky Mackay took a brief lead.

But Robinson's mount, trained by Clive Cox, battled back to take the lead once again in the closing moments to win by a neck.

The pair finished well clear of the James Fanshawe duo Azarole and Royal Prince.

1545 Prince of Wales's Stakes (One mile and a quarter)
1. Azamour (MJ Kinane) 11-8f
2. Ace (K Fallon) 7-1
3. Elvstroem (N Rawiller) 11-1
8 ran. Dist: 1, 5

Azamour shows his class to add to last year's St James's Palace Stakes and Irish Champion Stakes successes.

Michael Kinane's mount put in a brave performance to hold off fellow Irish challenger Ace, who was the subject of a big pre-race gamble.

Australian challenger Elvstroem took up the pace early on and looked in trouble in the last three furlongs but still managed to hold on for third.

Last year's dual Oaks winner and Breeders Cup heroine Ouija Board, in her first run of the season, finished well down the field.

1505 Windsor Forest Stakes (One mile)

1. Peeress (MJ Kinane) 14-1
2. Sundrop (K McEvoy) 15-8f
3. Soviet Song (JP Murtagh) 5-2
8 ran. Dist: 2, 1

Peeress challenges late to land a big-price win in the Windsor Forest Stakes under the guidance of Michael Kinane.

Kinane's mount ran strong in the final couple of furlongs to make up for a disappointing run at Epsom recently and give trainer Sir Michael Stoute yet another win at the Royal meeting.

Godolphin challenger Sundrop had led from the start and looked set to give jockey Kerrin McEvoy his second victory of the meeting entering the last two furlongs.

But it was Peeress who looked best late on to claim the Group One win while Soviet Song, in her first race after a long absence, will benefit from the run.

1430 Jersey Stakes (Seven furlongs)

1. Proclamation (JP Murtagh) 7-1
2. Camacho (R Hughes) 11-2
3. Home Affairs (MJ Kinane) 4-1f
21 ran. Dist: 2,

The Jeremy Noseda-trained Proclamation shows his class to win the opening race on the second day of the Royal meeting.

Jockey Johnny Murtagh overcame a difficult wide draw from stall 20 to bring his horse through and once he took the lead with a furlong remaining, he was well in control.

Camacho, who was looking to give Henry Cecil another Ascot success, ran a bold race from the front but the end pace of Proclamation was too strong.
