Darasim takes Goodwood Cup
Darasim
Darasim led from start to finish as trainer Mark Johnston claimed a fifth victory in the Goodwood Cup.

The Johnston-trained Darasim, ridden by Joe Fanning, made the running and moved away from the field to win by two-and-a-half lengths.

Royal Rebel, also trained by Johnston, came in second, with Misternando third and Johnston's Double Obsession fourth.

"I was worried Darasim had it a bit too easy at first but he had as much turn of foot as anyone," said Johnston.

"He handles the track and this type of ground very well, so he had it all today.

"This horse has one third in the Gold Cup and could be a Gold Cup horse again next year."

Fanning said: "He's got a real good turn of foot. I got a good breather into him with half a mile to go and when he accelerated again nobody could get to him.

"He's a very straightforward horse to ride - you keep him handy and he's happy."
