Song claims Sussex Stakes
Soviet Song ran out a game winner of the Sussex Stakes
Soviet Song put in a fighting display to gamely hold on for victory in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The James Fanshawe-trained filly, ridden by Johnny Murtagh, saw off the challenge of Nayyir to claim her second successive Group One victory.

One-time leader Le Vie Dei Colori came third, with Norse Dancer in fourth.

Favourite Refuse To Bend lost his chance when jockey Frankie Dettori had to snatch up his mount after being blocked in on the inside rail.

Soviet Song had beaten the previously unbeaten Attraction on her last start in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket.

Winning jockey Murtagh told BBC Sport: "She's a great filly. She's tough, she's genuine and she loves to win now.

"She proved today her race at Newmarket was no fluke. I hope she can just keep progressing all season."

Victory in the one-mile contest, the feature race of the week, provided the 200th winner for owners, the Elite Racing Club.

Delighted trainer Fanshawe said: "She's very special.

"Everyone seemed slightly baffled that Attraction got beaten last time, but she's come out of the race well and shown the colts how to do it today. She's a pleasure to train."
