Philip Hobbs
Hobbs read agriculture at Reading University but the family farm near Minehead is now famous for harvesting National Hunt winners rather than other more traditional crops.

  Philip Hobbs
Started training: 1985
Base: Sandhill, Minehead
2001/02 winners: 119
Main jockey: Richard Johnson
Stable stars: Flagship Uberalles, Whats Up Boys, Gunther McBride, Rooster Booster

A former professional jump jockey, Hobbs began his training career in 1985 with six horses which he kept in a cowshed.

But his first runner was a winner at Devon and Exeter and he has never looked back with last season his best ever.

It saw him just lose out after a battle with his west country neighbour Paul Nicholls for the runner's-up spot - and land 119 winners in the process.

But he picked up some prestigious races in the process, including the Queen Mother Champion Chase with Flagship Uberalles, who also won another Grade One race, the Tingle Creek.

And the his horses also scored in some big handicaps, including the Hennessy Gold Cup (What's Up Boys), the Racing Post Chase (Gunther McBride) and the County Hurdle (Rooster Booster).
