Reading hockey focus on qualifying for Europe - Joyce
Joyce's Reading side finished fourth in the Premier Division this season
Reading's Rhys Joyce says European qualification would be some consolation for missing out on the league title.
The Blues lost 3-2 to East Grinstead in the play-offs last weekend, ending hopes of claiming the national title.
They face Surbiton this Saturday to decide who will join East Grinstead and Beeston in the European Cup.
Captain Joyce told BBC Berkshire: "We've been in Europe for the last four years since its commencement, it's really important for us as a club."
He added: "For Reading to be on that stage is very important, but also for the individuals within the group.
"Everyone wants to play at the highest level and it represents a chance for us to play against some of the best hockey players in the world.
"Everyone is keen and motivated to play in Europe. On Saturday I'm not expecting anyone not to be up for that game."
Joyce concedes it has been a disappointing season in the league for his side.
"It's been one of real inconsistency," he admitted. "That's partly due to the unavailability of players through international commitments and injuries.
"We've not really had a chance to play as a group for a consistent period of time - except for the last few weeks where we've climbed into play-off contention."
