Conroy's GB team were knocked out of the World Championships by the USA |
Norwich wheelchair basketball player Amy Conroy is finally allowing herself to look towards the London Paralympics. The forward, 17, believes appearing at 2012 is a genuine possibility after helping Great Britain to a sixth-placed finish at July's World Championships. She told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I got really good court time, that was unexpected and I played nearly half of every game. "So I realised it was a possibility in the last couple of months." The Notre Dame High School pupil is having to balance studying for her A-levels as well as preparing for the Games, but is upping her commitment to the sport in preparation. "I'm going to start training every day from now on," she said. "I'm not sure how much I will do, but I will work out a schedule. You have to be organised with homework and things." | Anything could happen, just one injury could ruin your hard work and training, but I'll do the best I can to get ther Amy Conroy on London 2012 |
Conroy, who lost the lower part of her left leg after recovering from cancer, announced herself on the international scene with a 16-point haul against the USA in the World Wheelchair Basketball Challenge earlier this year. Since then the Bury Bombers star has been put through her paces, along with the rest of the GB team, at an American training camp. "That was horrible. It was really early starts and late nights non-stop," she said. "I did see an improvement after that and made a lot of amazing friends from around the world." Now the youngster is focused on maintaining her fitness ahead of 2012. She added: "Anything could happen, just one injury could ruin your hard work and training, but I'll do the best I can to get there."
