Storey also won gold at last year's Beijing Paralympics |
Great Britain clinched seven medals, including three golds, at the Para-Cycling World Road Championships in Italy. Paralympic champion Sarah Storey won both the time trial and road race in her LC1 category. "I was second in 2006 and missed the 2007 event with a broken collarbone so this is great to win," she said. Darren Kenny edged out great rival Javier Ochoa from Spain by two seconds to win the CP3 road race. Ochoa had won the time trial earlier in the week, with Kenny finishing third, but the Briton gained revenge in dramatic fashion in Sunday's road race. He was helped by team-mate Rik Waddon, who just missed out on a medal in fourth place. Paralympic gold medallist David Stone was beaten into second in the time trial for the CP2 category. Britain also won medals in both of the tandem events for visually impaired athletes. Paralympic gold medallists Aileen McGlynn and Ellen Hunter won silver in the time trial, while the new pairing of Lora Turnham and Bex Rimmington were third in the road race. The Para-Cycling World Track Championships take place in Manchester from 4-8 November.
