Shuker was making her debut at Wimbledon in 2009 |
Lucy Shuker has risen to a career-high doubles ranking of sixth in the world after reaching the Wimbledon final. The British number one, partnered by Australian Daniela Di Toro, lost to the Dutch pairing of Korie Homan and Esther Vergeer 6-1, 6-3. It was the first time that Shuker, who trains in Taunton, has appeared in the Championships at Wimbledon. "There was some disappointment, but to get to the final was a great achievement," said the 29-year-old. She added: "To play at Wimbledon for the first time was incredible. I look forward to hopefully having another chance again next year." The Dutch pair are the world's top two singles and doubles players and have never lost a match as a partnership.
