Nottinghamshire's David Phillipson is hoping for a decent draw at the wheelchair tennis British Open ahead of his Paralympic Games debut in Beijing.

The British number one is hoping to defend ranking points at the tournament, which runs from 22-27 July at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

"My goal is to try and take out a seeded player in the first or second round," said the 19-year-old.

The player, from Bingham, is ranked 25 in the world in wheelchair tennis.

The teenager recently made his debut at in the Wimbledon Doubles Masters Series, where he partnered Gordon Reid, from Scotland.

The pair lost 6-0 6-2 to defending champions Robin Ammerlaan and Ronald Vink from the Netherlands in the semi-finals.

He said: "To go from Wimbledon, where we were playing on Court Three, a stone's throw from where the drama of the Federer-Nadal final was unfolding on centre court, to my home tennis centre in Nottingham, will be a bit different.

"But I love playing in front of my home supporters in Nottingham and would encourage everyone to come down and support us.

"It's like home to me as I've trained there so much over the years."
