Terry Jenkins spurred on by 'lazy' criticism

Terry Jenkins
Jenkins has been runner-up in seven major televised finals.

Herefordshire darts star Terry Jenkins says criticism has spurred him into reaching the last eight of the World Championships at Alexandra Palace.

The world number seven from Ledbury hammered Mark Walsh 4-0 to reach the quarter-finals.

"If anybody says something bad about me it upsets me and makes me more determined," said Jenkins.

Jenkins, aged 47, has never gone beyond the last eight in the tournament, but believes this could be his year.

The Ledbury-born player, nicknamed 'The Bull', joked: "If people says something good about me, don't tell me!"

"Seriously, I felt comfortable up there against Mark, more comfortable than the other two nights. Against the youngsters you are never sure what they are going to do, but I knew I had to hit everything to beat Mark.

"Sometimes I do go up there a bit too relaxed. I have to learn to get the bit between my teeth whatever happens. I have to go up there fighting for it all the time and I am a better player when the pressure is on."
