England's Mervyn King moved comfortably into the second round of the PDC World Championship at Alexandra Palace with a 3-0 victory over Sweden's Magnus Caris. The world number six hit 13 140s and finished with a 136 checkout as he dropped just two legs against Caris. King will next play Andy Smith, who beat Australia's Shane Tichowitsch 3-1. Former world champion Dennis Priestley celebrated his 21st appearance at the finals with a straightforward 3-0 win over Germany's Bernd Roith. The 60-year-old, who won the title in 1994, lost the opening leg, but reeled off the next nine, finishing six with his favourite double top, to book a second-round meeting with 11th seed Gary Anderson. England's Smith threw six 180s as he eased past Tichowitsch to end a run of three successive first-round exits. And 10th seed Mark Walsh also moved safely into round two with a 3-1 win over Justin Pipe. The Englishman took the first two sets before Pipe hit back, winning the third set three legs to nil, but the 2005 UK Open finalist bounced back to set up a meeting with Alan Tabern in round two.
