King faces Taylor in Premier semi

Mervyn King
King has moved up to sixth in the PDC rankings in just two years

Mervyn King faces Phil Taylor in the semi-finals of the Premier League at Wembley Arena on Monday night.

The winner will face James Wade or Raymond van Barneveld in the final on the same evening.

King, from Bradwell in Norfolk, says he is hoping for the perfect finish to his first season in the Premier League.

"I've achieved what I set out to do at the start - to reach the semi-finals. Now I'm there I want to go on and win this tournament," he said.

He added: "I will do my best and if it's good enough on the day then great, and I can look forward to the final."

Phil is playing some great darts - he's a pleasure to watch

Taylor and King last met in their final match of the league phase of the competition at the Cardiff Indoor Arena, Taylor taking the honours 8-2 in what was, by then, a dead rubber.

King was the early leader of the league this season with some stunning displays in his opening four matches, but he has failed to hit the same consistency since then.

And he admits he will have to be back on top form to beat the 14-time world champion.

"I've been practising hard because I know I need to be better than I was in Cardiff, Phil is playing some great darts - he's a pleasure to watch when you're not playing him," he said.
