Cavendish has 64 stage wins in his professional career |
Mark Cavendish sprinted to his second victory this year, in the 200km one-day Scheldeprijs Classic in Belgium. The victory is the Manx cyclist's first in Europe in 2011 - he won the final stage of the Tour of Oman in February. He delivered a trademark finish to overcome Russian Denis Galimzyanov and Yauheni Hutarovich of Belarus. "The team did a perfect job, chasing down the break and then getting me to the front as they always do," said the 25-year-old. The victory is the HTC-Highroad rider's third career title at the event. It takes him level with Piet Oellibrandt's record of three wins, following his previous triumphs in 2007 and 2008. "I'm racing a lot this season, and I've had some bad luck, so it's good I can get the wins in, too," he added. "My next race will be Paris-Roubaix and then I'll build up for the Tour de France, with the Tour of Italy and the Tour de Suisse."
