Lincoln Cycle Grand Prix to be sponsored by University

Lincoln Grand Prix
Riders have to climb Michaelgate 11 times during the Lincoln Grand Prix

The University of Lincoln is to become a major sponsor of the city's annual Grand Prix.

The event, which was first held in 1956, is one of the biggest events on the British cycling calendar.

The eight-mile long course features the notorious steep climb up the cobbled Michaelgate in the city centre.

Race organiser Ian Emmerson said: "This will ensure that the race goes from strength to strength as Lincoln's major international sporting fixture."

The 55th Lincoln Grand Prix will be held on Sunday, 9 May.
