Guernsey's McLaughlin set the fastest time of the day

James McLaughlin set the fastest time of the day as Guernsey took a clean sweep in the Inter-insular 25-mile time trial on Sunday.

The 18-year-old crossed the line in 53 minutes and 10 seconds, one second shy of two minutes ahead of the fastest Jersey rider Robin Ovenden.

Guernsey's Tim Holmes won the veteran class in 57.32 and Ann Bowditch took the ladies category in 1.02.10.

Callum Hill-Smith completed the class victories in the juniors in 59.02.

Guernsey took the combined win to complete the clean sweep, with the times of the fastest three riders from each island counting, as they finished in 2.43.33, almost eight minutes ahead of Jersey.
