 Riders competing in Derby |
A team of riders representing BMX Isle of Man gained valuable experience at the opening rounds of the National BMX Series held in Derby at the weekend. Juan Watney made an excellent start in the 16-29 class with two top six finishes to leave him fifth overall. Last year Watney finished fifth overall and the rider is hoping to improve this time around. "I'm happy with my performance, last year went well but this time it would be great to improve," said Watney. "We've got some talented young riders in our team and for them to be competing at this level at such a young age is great. "The course had some really big jumps which our team were not used to, so we are confident we can all improve next time out." Paul Crook returned to National racing after 20 years in the 30-39 cruiser class. Crook put in solid performances to reach the quarter-finals on both days but a big crash on the Sunday leaves him 31st in the series. Junior riders Matt, Holly and Sophie Black, Zach Watterson and Liam Crook all performed well and gained valuable track experience. The next round of the series is being held at Burnham on Sea on the weekend of the 22 May. The next round of the Ramsey BMX Summer Series is this Saturday at Ramsey BMX Track.
