Chris Newton claimed a silver medal in the scratch race on day two of the World Cup event in Beijing.

The British Olympic bronze medallist followed up his previous day's gold in the points race to finish second to New Zealand's Hayden Godfrey.

Isle of Man rider Mark Christian, part of an early attack, finished in 11th place at the Olympic Laoshan Velodrome.

Newton, 35, was in a group of nine riders who burst clear at the half-way mark, coming through to claim second.

He is the only Great Britain medallist returning to China for this event, the fourth of five in the World Cup series.

Many of the rest of the GB squad are expected back in action in the final event in Copenhagen in February, a month before the World Championships in Pruszkow, Poland.
