Kennaugh claims World Cup silver

Peter Kennaugh
Kennaugh was five points off first place in Colombia

Great Britain's Peter Kennaugh finished second in the men's points race at the Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia.

Leonardo Duque won the race with 61 points, five ahead of Kennaugh, with Carlos Torrent Tarres in third.

Kennaugh, just 19, also teamed up with Robert Hayles for the Madison, finishing in sixth place.

The race was won by the Belgian pair of Ingmar de Poortere and Tim Mertens ahead of Colombia's Juan Arango Carvajal and Carlos Alberto Uran.

Great Britain opted not to send a full team to Cali, even though qualifying places were on offer for the World Championships in Pruszkow, Poland, in March.

After a strong showing in the opening World Cup leg in Manchester last month, they expect to seal the remaining places in the fifth and final leg in Copenhagen in February.

The World Cup series next moves back to Beijing, where Great Britain won 12 Olympic track medals last August, for an event on 16-18 January.
