The Criterium at the 2003 Island Games was a big success

The Guernsey Velo Club are hoping to attract some of the UK's top cyclists to their first criterium in September.

The fast-paced race was a hit at the Island Games in 2003 and sees riders race round a short course through the twisty streets of St Peter Port.

"We're at the stage where we're just about to send out invites to the top riders in the UK," said Guernsey Velo Club President Gary Wallbridge.

Top Guernsey rider Tobyn Horton is expected to lead the local field.
