Junior riders dominate race again

McLaughlin handled the conditions best on L'Eree

James McLaughlin rode the fastest time of the day in dry but windy conditions as the junior riders dominated the Velo Club's L'Eree Hill Climb on Wednesday.

McLaughlin's time of four minutes and 55 seconds was 10 seconds faster than Josh Gosselin, who narrowly beat Dan Arblaster on split seconds.

Matt Osborn was fourth, a further four seconds adrift, with Oliver Tracey rounding off the top five places.

Gosselin, 22, was the only senior rider in the top five places.

The second senior rider was Leon Ogier in sixth place followed by Jon Osborn, Philip Touzeau, Under-16 Callum Hill-Smith and Ben Walden completing the top 10.

The fastest female rider was Ann Bowditch in 6:13 finishing in 18th place overall with Tracey Dowinton second in 6:44.

Alex Falla, the quickest Under-14, came in 19th place overall, closely followed by Allan Renyard who set a new Over-65 record with a time of 6:27, while Ray Pinchmain was the second Grand Veteran in 22nd place.

Paul Watts, the only rider on a mountain bike, rounded off the overall standings in a time of 8:05.
