Garzelli stole victory from his fellow Italian in the closing stages |
Stefano Garzelli passed long-time leader Gilberto Simoni in the last 50m to win Saturday's 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia from Cantu to Bergamo. Overall leader Danilo Di Luca crossed the line in eighth place to retain the leader's pink jersey.
Garzelli and Simoni clocked the same unofficial time for the 192km leg, four hours 58:34 secs.
Sunday's 15th stage, from Trento to Tre Cime di Lavaredo, is considered the tour's toughest, with three big climbs.
