The Italian Liquigas team took first blood in the team time-trial stage of the Giro d'Italia on Saturday. Italy's Enrico Gasparotto was the first Liquigas rider to cross the line and so will wear the race leader's pink jersey during Sunday's second stage.
The Astana team were the second outfit home, 13 seconds back, with CSC third on the twisting Sardinian course.
The Discovery team, which includes Britain's track star Steve Cummings, came in fifth.
The Giro, pro cycling's second biggest race, finishes in Milan on 3 June.
