Fakenham's Mervyn King had enoyed his best ever year in 2010 |
Mervyn King says he missed a chance to make a good year even better at the World Indoor Championships. Norfolk's world number eight suffered a shock last 16 defeat by Brett Arkley at Potters, despite the pair being separated by 113 ranking places. And after winning last year's Premier League and Scottish Open, King was left to ponder what might have been. "It could have been my year but I've just got to look at each tournament," he told BBC Radio Norfolk. "I've won two things this year and I couldn't have hoped for a better year. "You're only human, you can't do it all the time, no-one wins everything and normally it shares around. "I've got the Welsh Grand Prix next weekend so I've got to look to that and try to win it. | To get to the second round and the last-16 was just fantastic and hopefully I'll do it again next year |
"At the end of the day I've won it once (2006) and a lot of people would like to do that so I'm quite happy." The 45-year-old starts his Welsh Grand Prix campaign against Canadian John Bezear on Saturday. Meanwhile fellow county player Tim Stone hopes to replicate his performance at Potters this year next time around. The world number 24 put in a good showing despite being knocked out by eventual beaten finalist Alex Marshall. "It was just fantastic to push Alex, the top class player he is, all the way," he said. "To get to the second round and the last-16 was just fantastic and hopefully I'll do it again next year. "But it's back to square one unfortunately, qualifying through six or seven rounds again."
