Fakenham's Mervyn King has enoyed his best year in 2010 |
Norfolk's Mervyn King has won the player of the year and players' player of the year prize at the 2010 World Bowls Tour Awards. King, 45, secured a Commonwealth silver medal this year as well as the Premier League and Scottish Open titles. "I can't tell you how much this means to me," he said. Cambridgeshire's Greg Harlow was named fans' player of the year while young Scot Stewart Anderson claimed young player and performance of the year. On the players' player award King added: "This is probably the best award there is, having the respect from your fellow players." Anderson, 25, shot on to the scene in 2010 by reaching the Scottish Open final and by becoming the first qualifier to progress to the World Singles final. "This is a shock, especially to win against all the top players in the world," he said. Other winners included Andy Thomson, who took the lifetime achievement award. And the stewards from Anglia Bowls, who work voluntary at every WBT even at Potters in Norfolk, claimed the unsung hero prize.
